Our Ultimate Tip to Starting Your Day off Right

How do the most successful people conquer their day, get more done with more energy, and love every second of it?

They wake up early.

I know it’s not a revelation. But it has the power to revolutionize your life.

Waking up early instantly opens up hours of extra time for the things you love to do. That added dose of passionate living gives you more energy to conquer the rest of your day … and those conquered days compound into a legendary life.

And if you’re currently a die-hard night owl, I’m right there with you. I used to stubbornly battle Ben Franklin’s “early to rise” maxim every chance I got …

I was skeptical of anything that moved before 8 a.m!

That all changed when I set my mind to becoming one of the most successful people in my niches—copywriting and women’s legendary living.

Unfortunately, the desire to be successful and live every day to the fullest doesn’t make pulling yourself out of bed any easier. Our willpower is especially low in that groggy place between sleep and consciousness.

That’s why it’s important to create a “low willpower” habit that makes it easy for you to wake up.

I have one in particular that, when used daily, can make the aversion to waking up early totally disappear … and your body will absolutely love you for it!

Starting Your Day Off Right: Wake Up With Water

After 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep, you’re pretty dehydrated. That’s why drinking water is one of my favorite ways to wake up.

The night before, just fill up a glass or water bottle with at least 500ml of water—or grab a bottle of Hint—and put it right next to your alarm clock.

Then when your alarm goes off, don’t hit snooze. Turn it off, sit up, and drink your water.

You don’t even have to have your eyes open. All you have to do is drink.

I have found this works best when you’re sitting up. (Otherwise you might end up with a face-full of water … then you’d really be awake!)

That’s why I put my phone in my office down the hall, where I can still hear it but I have to walk to shut it off. There I have my office chair and desk to lean on while waking up.

This is a low willpower task that helps you wake up gently and gives you a jump-start on your hydration.

By the time you’re at the end of your drink, you’ll be wide-awake and ready to tackle your day!

    I like this idea!

A proud night-owl who unfortunately needs to work an AM job (you know, to pay those bills and all) found morning motivation.

I used to roll out as late as possible and hope that a quick shower will make me human again. I’ve now fallen in love with Tai Chi, so it’s my morning love affair to (slowly) get up 1/2 hour earlier and unfold the day with gentle movement. It’s deceptively invigorating without sweat or strain and my body thanks me for it later.

And I didn’t start my day crabby!

Great tip, Rae! My Aunt June married a farmer and had trouble rising early to do chores. Then she learned this trick: drink a quart of water BEFORE you go to bed. Your bladder will wake you up if your alarm doesn’t! Now that I have dogs, I don’t need an alarm. They always make it fun to get up early.

I find doing 10 minutes of stretching right before bed helps me wake up refreshed in the morning! And I always keep a water bottle on the nightstand so I can drink some h2o first thing.
