12 Inventive Ways to Drink More Water

Drinking water may seem like an obvious task to do every day, but it’s much harder to drink the recommended amount of eight glasses every day (or, about five bottles of flavored water). In fact, 75 percent of Americans spend most of their lives dehydrated. Yikes!

Here are some inventive ways to remember to drink plenty of water each day.

1. Download a water tracker app

Can’t remember to drink water? There’s an app for that. Use technology to remind yourself to drink water, track your water intake, and stay hydrated all day. Here is our in-depth review of the top water-tracking apps.

2. Keep water next to your bed

You spend most of your time in bed, hopefully about eight hours each night if you can. But the hours you spend asleep are also hours you’re not drinking water. So, if you keep water next to your bed, you’re more likely to drink some before bed and the moment you wake up.

3. Eat spicy foods

Here’s a fun trick. When you eat spicy food, you need to drink water. Not only will it provide some relief from that fire on your tongue, but it will count towards your water intake for the day.

4. Snack on foods with high water content

Eating foods that are high in water content is a sneaky way to add more water into your diet without even noticing. Most of the popular produce items are water-rich and won’t be hard to resist. Check out some of these hydrating snacks.

5. Add flavor

Having a hint of fruit essence in your water can make a huge difference. Try hint water® for a change up from your usual tap water. This adds a tasty flare to drinking plain water.

Quench readers get 30 percent off their first orders of hint water® when using this special link. So go ahead, add flavor to your water.

6. Add water to your regular routine

A great way to remember to drink water is tying it with a task you repeat every day. For example, drink water every time you use the restroom, or with every meal. This is an easy way of making it seem like second-nature to be constantly reaching for that water bottle.

7. Keep water in plain view

A study shows that if you keep water in plain view, you are 30 percent more likely to drink it. If you have a reusable water bottle, you should carry it around, keep water bottles in your car, and cups of water around the house. If it is in your line of vision, there is a better chance you will realize you are dehydrated and drink it.

8. Find the right temperature

Some people prefer ice cold water, while others love sipping water that’s room temperature. Once you figure out your preference, and you may be more keen to drinking water. Even having hot tea counts!

9. Add bubbles

Sometimes flat water is just too boring, and you crave the bubbles from a soda. Instead, add some bubbles to your drink with hint fizz®. It comes in several different flavors like peach, blackberry, and grapefruit — yum!

10. Use it as a weight-loss tool

Sometimes your brain says you’re hungry, but you’re actually just thirsty. (Get it together body, you’re sending mixed signals!) Staying hydrated and drinking more water will eliminate the mindless snacking throughout the day. Drinking the right amount of water can be used as a weight-loss tool.

11. Decorate and fill a reusable water bottle

Invest in a reusable water that can keep your water cold (or hot, see #8) for a long time. Water bottles are also really fun to decorate. Think about it, a bottle is a great canvas to sport your favorite stickers! When you have a water bottle that you absolutely love, you’re less likely to forget it each time you leave the house.

12. Create a water-drinking plan

Creating a water-drinking plan will help you keep track of how much water you are drinking throughout the day. Check out our list of ways to creating your own plan for staying hydrated.
