1.) What’s the best thing to happen to you since sliced bread?
2.) If you could have one superpower what would that be?
As a kid, I loved stretch armstrong – he could sit on the couch and grab a drink from the kitchen, such a practical superpower!
3.) What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received on your journey?
One of my favorite business school professors (a rock star economist who also happened to be female) told me “Make sure you find a job you LOVE, because there’s nothing worse than leaving kids you love every morning for a job you don’t.”
4.) What’s one piece of advice you’d tell your younger self looking back now?
There is life beyond Manhattan 🙂 (I lived in Manhattan for 25 years – love it – and now going on 5 years in Seattle, love it too).
Mary Egan is a business leader with a long track record of catalyzing and nurturing transformational growth in leading consumer brands. Most recently, she led Global Strategy and Corporate Development for Starbucks, supporting CEO and Chairman Howard Schultz and his leadership team during a period of rapid growth during which the stock price more than doubled.
Prior to Starbucks, Ms Egan spent 14 years in the New York Office of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where she was a Partner and Managing Director. At BCG, Ms Egan worked with with the CEO’s and executive teams of some of the world’s leading brands on aggressive growth strategy development and execution. She emerged as a leader in a consumer-centric approach to innovation and brand development, serving on the founding board of BCG’s Global Center for Consumer Insight. Ms. Egan also developed and taught a popular elective course at Columbia Business School called “Consumer Centric Strategy.
Ms Egan holds a BA in urban studies and political science from Barnard College, Columbia University, an MSEd from Bank Street Graduate School of Education, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Prior to her business career, she worked for several years in public education in New York including five years teaching middle school mathematics at a public school in Harlem. She lives on an island off the coast of Seattle with her husband and three children and serves on the boards of three Seattle area non-profit organizations: Thrive by Five Washington; YouthCare; and the Crystal Mountain Alpine Club (CMAC) ski team. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Les Schwab Tire Centers, and on the advisory board for AngeLabs.
