This week a blizzard warning has been issued for a major part of the Northeast and parts of the Midwest. The Weather Channel is reporting that Winter Storm Stella is expected to bring over a foot of snow and strong winds to a large portion of the country. The American Red Cross suggests you have at least a 3-day supply of water for an occasion like this—one gallon per person per day and at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable, easy-to-prepare food. Try any of the Hint’s 19 natural flavors in both flavored sparkling water and flavored water (still). Although we are already in the thick of the storm there are still cold temperatures, snow, sleet and heavy winds ahead. I have decided to whip out the Crock-Pot and make some hearty meals to keep my family warm. What better way to spend a cozy day at home while the snow falls than to cook with your family? Some of our favorites are a hearty beef stew, vegetable packed minestrone soup, and a savory balsamic-marinade chicken.

Slow-Cooker Beef Stew

This hearty stew is one of our favorite healthy slow-cooker recipes. Better yet, you may already have most of the ingredients in your home!


  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups cherry hint® water
  • 3 potatoes, diced
  • 4 carrots, sliced


  1. Place meat in slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl mix together the flour, salt, and pepper; pour over meat, and stir to coat meat with flour mixture.
  3. Stir in the garlic, bay leaf, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, onion, beef broth, water, potatoes, carrots, and celery.
  4. Cover, and cook on low setting for 10 to 12 hours, or on high setting for 4 to 6 hours.

The Best Crockpot Minestrone Soup

If you’re craving vegetables, a minestrone soup is a healthy slow-cooker recipe that is super flexible, depending on what you have on hand. Grab whatever beans, veggies, and pastas you have around.


  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups carrots, chopped
  • 2 cups potatoes, chopped
  • 1.5 cups celery, chopped
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cups vegetable stock ( I prefer low sodium broth)
  • 2 cups lime hint® water
  • 3 cups V8 ( or tomato juice)
  • 1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) cannellii beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1½ cups zucchini, diced
  • 1  cups tubular (ditalini) pasta
  • 1 can (15 oz) green beans, drained


  1. Place your diced tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, celery, white onion, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, bay leaves into your crockpot.
  2. Add in vegetable stock, water, and V8. Cover and cook on LOW for  6-8 hours or 3-4 hours on HIGH.
  3. After cooking time is up, add in red kidney beans, cannellii beans, zucchini, green beans and pasta , and cook on high heat for an additional 10-15 minutes until pasta is tender.
  4. Serve with your favorite crackers, salad or warm bread!

Slow-Cooker Balsamic Chicken

Mmm, chicken soup! Our mango-grapefruit hint® water adds a delicious citrus twist to this hearty and healthy slow-cooker recipe.


  • 2 c. Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 c. baby red potatoes, halved or quartered if large
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 c. balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup mango-grapefruit hint® water
  • 2 tbsp. grainy Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 2 tsp. dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish


  1. In a large slow cooker, add Brussels sprouts and potatoes in an even layer and place chicken on top.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, chicken broth, brown sugar, mustard, dried thyme, rosemary, and oregano, water and crushed red pepper flakes. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Pour marinade over chicken and vegetables. Scatter all over with garlic.
  4. Cover and cook on high until chicken is fall-apart tender, 4 1/2 to 5 hours.
  5. Garnish with parsley and serve with the juices.
