5 Ways to Make a Difference on World Water Day

Today is World Water Day. World Water Day is a United Nations campaign that was started to raise awareness about water scarcity and safety issues around the world. Some of us don’t have to wonder where our morning shower or hot cup of coffee is coming from, but 1.8 billion people around the world lack access to safe water. We must always appreciate our water, and try to reduce usage. Every drop counts– The amount of safe water could drop by 40 percent in 15 years if people do not change the way they use water!

Here are 5 easy tips you can follow to help make a difference!

  1. We bet you’ve heard this one before, but it’s an easy one you really should be following! When you brush your teeth, make sure you don’t keep your faucet running – and pre-fill a cup for your rinsing purposes so you don’t waste too much by accident from the faucet.
  2. Another no-brainer, take SHORTER showers! Another way to help reduce water-use in your shower is to install a low-flow shower head. These are inexpensive for the most part, check this one out for only $8! Re-use your towels! You really don’t need to wash your towels after each use, hang them dry for multiple use!
  3. Make sure you are doing a completely full load of laundry – it’s more time effective than doing multiple, small loads AND it saves water!
  4. Wash your clothing with COLD water! Heating water is the most energy intensive part of the laundering process, so by changing to cold, you are saving both water and electricity! Ps. Colder water is easier on your clothing anyways
