If you’re unfamiliar with SoulCycle, it’s a cardio-intensive workout, but your instructor fills you with endorphins and confidence, the music makes you wanna tap-it-back, and you leave feeling ten times better than how you walked in. When I participated in the SoulCycle challenge, I went to 32 classes in 30 days, and it seriously made me a better person.
I don’t recommend many things to people, but SoulCycle is something I DO recommend. Here’s why:
For me, SoulCycle provides an escape from the non-stop craziness of my everyday life. Work demands, the stress of commuting, and any drama from my personal life stay out of mind after I click my shoes into the bike, and class begins. It’s just me, my two bottles of hint water®, the teacher and the bike. Spiritual, I know.
It Adds Cardio to My Routine
It motivates me to do more cardio. People often focus too much on one muscle group during their workout routines and forget that cardio is an essential element of well-rounded workouts.
SoulCycle gives you an intense cardio workout while also targeting your arms and abs all in 45 minutes. Going to class every day was really hard at first. The first few classes put me in check and I had to build the endurance to be able to keep up with the class. However, I quickly began to see huge differences in my body, both physically and mentally. And, if I’m being honest, the mental changes have helped me a lot in other parts of my life. No climb is too steep, and no sprint is too long.
It Creates Healthier Social Habits
The quality of my social life has improved. While I love spinning alone, I often invite work colleagues and friends to come to a class with me. When someone suggests going out for drinks, I counter-offer with a SoulCycle class outing. It’s a win-win! Just this week I’ve taken friends from New York, some of my interns, people on my team, etc. Everyone loves good music and no one is in a bad mood with the endorphins by the end.
It’s a Mood-Booster
On top of that, all of the endorphins I get racing through my body actually changes my attitude. My mood is constantly boosted and I feel happier all the time. Last week in New York when I was just having a bad day, I took a class with Isaac, and all of a sudden my day became the best day ever.
It Requires More Focus
It reduces my habit to procrastinate. It’s easy to push things off when you don’t have solid plans for the day. The typical routine is a 5:30 am or 6 am SoulCycle class in the city I wake up in, regardless of where Kara Goldin and I are traveling. Thus far, we’ve “Soul-ed” together in LA, Dallas, Washington DC, New York City, San Francisco, and I’m sure there are a couple more I’m missing throughout my Soul experience.
Once I started to schedule a SoulCycle class for first thing in the morning, I would plan my entire day around it. I wake up earlier, plan my meals, and drink more water. Every aspect of my life has improved.
Now you’re probably thinking: How can a fitness class really do that much? Simple: consistency and concentration. In order to make real changes in your life, you have to be serious about it — whether it’s taking an insane amount of classes like I did, or just making small adjustments to your everyday life.
At hint, we’re all about making small lifestyle changes that make it simple, fun, and easy to be a better you. Change doesn’t happen overnight — it is a result of hard work, determination, and hint.
